Jack Micheline once told me “I could write a letter that would knock your fucking socks off.”

Fifteen years later, I find myself getting ready to publish an anthology inspired by one of his poems. And yes, there will be letters in it. And lists. Tiny artifacts are lost in our pockets, and we find them years later. These time capsules of the mundane become snapshots of heaven.

Brenda Cullerton sent me to see an exhibit of lists at The Morgan Library a year ago. It was exquisite. One of my favorites read:

          Sam,

          I need 100 dollars.

          Rent – 50

          Materials – 30

          Food – 15

          Bad Habits – 5

          ______________
